It’s the week before Christmas and all through the house, the kids are all crazy and ready to grouse.
It’s like this every year. The closer we get to Christmas, the crankier and crazier the kids are. I’ve had it up to my ears with people who have made statements to the effect of “This must be the easiest time of year to discipline. The kids are all probably on their best behavior.” Bull! Even when they all believed in Santa, there was no threat large enough to keep their behavior in check in December.
First, they’re all a flutter over every snowflake that falls. Then, there’s often the first snow day. On top of that is the anticipation of presents. These are kids who are pretty well behaved and who know that Jesus is the reason for the festivities.
I tried taking them to a movie one Christmas Eve day to help pass the time. Wow! I misjudged that one! That was a couple of years ago. I understand their excitement and want them to be enchanted by Christmas. It’s my absolute favorite time of year as well. The crazies are just a bit much for this mom to take at times.
